Concepts Art by Design comprises of two sisters, Sue (senior partner) and Lynn (baby sister), both raised in the leafy suburbs of Birmingham in the West Midlands.
Neither of us have any formal artistic qualifications although we’ve been creative in one form or another from a very early age, from dressmaking, cake decorating and painting on canvas using a variety of different mediums including oils, acrylics and watercolours.
The discovery of painting on glass came in 2005 and since then it’s become our passion. In previous years we often designed with an abstract point of view, however during our journey, we have found that our customers lean more to flora. The challenge is often around how to transfer a particular flower onto glass in the most appropriate way. But we love the challenge!
We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and ‘that’ll do’ is not in our vocabulary. We want our customers to be thrilled when they receive their purchase and as artists we get a great buzz from the fabulous feedback we receive on a regular basis. This tells us the work we put into each piece is worth it.
Although we grew up in the Midlands these days we live within forty minutes of each other, Sue living in the pretty town of Calne in Wiltshire and Lynn in a sleepy village in Hampshire.
Our painting styles are very different. Sue is very much the introvert and her work demonstrates this with small carefully drawn strokes from the outside in and her attention to detail can be clearly seen on her popular designs such as Daisy and Poppy.
Lynn on the other hand is an outright extrovert, with flourishes of outward strokes, vibrant colours and her signature use of outliner making two of her designs such as Cornflower and Jasmine a big hit with our customers.
Both Sue and Lynn love the opportunities of meeting with our lovely customers at various shows, which we attend in the South West and once a year we open up our Hampshire based studio where you can see us at work. Customers come back time after time again to add to their collections of our work, which have sold internationally, in the US, Canada, Australia and even Paris!
WORKSHOPS – we now offer monthly workshops, for those individuals looking for something creative, which are huge fun. They are held in the new studio in Hampshire. Places are now available to book Workshops
